Who: The Town of Babylon and the Babylon Animal Adoption Center (BAARC) invite you to a free Feral Cat Education Workshop presented by the Animal Lovers League, Glen Cove. The program will be presented by Joan Phillips, Animal Lovers League Director and member of the Nassau County Feral Cat Committee. Joan has fifteen years experience in animal sheltering, operating a spay-neuter clinic and Trap-Neuter-Return Program (TNR) for feral cats. Co-presenter is Grace DeVita, Director of Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR), and past Director of the Humane Division of Nassau County SPCA.
What: This workshop will educate, train, and empower officials, members of the public and interested volunteers to become an integral part of the effort to reduce the unrestricted breeding of feral and abandoned cats. Learn the do’s and don'ts of successful programs. Public officials are encouraged to attend at least the first hour of the program to get an overall view of some successful collaborative/cost-effective programs.
A wealth of ideas and proven methods for successful trapping will be shared, and “hands-on” (without live cats) demonstrations of safe trapping, and the variety and use of traps available as well as how to organize a successful TNR program or day. Transport to spay-neuter clinics, after-care protocols and colony management and monitoring will be covered. Learn tricks to catch the most elusive kitties and about the latest in equipment. How to find spay-neuter resources and recruitment and training of those who really want to make a difference will be on the agenda as well.

The free monthly Trap-Neuter-Return training workshops begin on March 28th. Attendees will learn all the steps in setting up a managed cat colony including establishing good community relations, feeding, building and placing shelters, arranging vet care, safely handling feral cats, and trapping. All workshop attendees will become TNR certified and Hudson County residents will gain access to low cost spay/neuter and trap rentals.
The 2009 workshops will be held from 12 noon to 3pm in Jersey City on the following dates:

It's Cat Month in Fredericton. The mayor has declared it so.
A registered charity, Ca-R-Ma (Cat Rescue Maritimes) has implemented a trap-neuter-return program in an attempt to bring the population of six feral cat colonies in the Fredericton area under control.
Ca-R-Ma has developed two power-point presentations, one for children, the other for adults.
The library is pleased to offer an information session and workshop for kids age seven to 12 on stray, abandoned and feral cats and what can be done to help homeless cats, Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fredericton Public Library. The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is hosting a forum on feral cats
“Humane Solutions to Controlling the Feral Cat Population” on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the shelter classroom. The program is presented by Donna Powell of Street Cat Rescue and will include the definition of a feral cat, what is a feral cat colony, ways you can be involved, resources and a cat trapping demonstration. Anyone with free-roaming cats, cat lovers, rescue and volunteer personnel, animal control personnel and community leaders are encouraged to attend. Snacks will be served. Please RSVP by calling the shelter at 943-3322. The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is located at 1855 S.E. Inner Loop in Georgetown.
